Jesus described this same upheaval of humanity in Matthew 24, as "great tribulation." The wars and destruction will be so great that without divine interruption the entire human race would be in danger of extinction: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened (Matthew 74:21, 22). The Apostle Paul also spoke of this time of trouble and predicted: For when they shall say, peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape (1 Thessalonians 5:3) The seven-year peace treaty initiates a false sense of security, as the nations declare, "Finally, peace and security!" Suddenly, the armies of the Beast invade northern Africa, controlling the sea lanes. His soldiers of jihad sweep into the rich oil nations of the Persian Gulf, seizing the black gold of the Arabian deserts. Israel will have been forced to disarm and the Antichrist will use the Palestinian cause to create a massive uprising on the streets inside of Israel thus retaking East Jerusalem.
