4. The angel in a cloud

a. Christ was transfigured in a cloud surrounded by Moses and Elijah (Matt. 17:3-5) b. Christ was taken up in a cloud from the area of Bethany and the Mount of Olives (Acts 1:9) c. Christ will return in the clouds (Luke 21:27) d. Believers are surrounded by a great “cloud of wit nesses” (Heb. 12:1)

Note: In Revelation a cloud is mentioned in six verses (10:1; 11:12; 14:14-16)

5. The rainbow over the angel

a. A rainbow was a sign to Noah that God would never destroy the earth by water again (Gen. 9:13-14) b. God said He would remember His covenant not to destroy the earth (not a total destruction) c. The “roaring Lion” is the Lion of Judah who is preparing to conquer and rule on earth

THE MYSTERY OF THE SEVEN THUNDERS (Revelation 10:4)

A. God’s voice is co mpared to thunde r

1. God’s voice on Mount Sinai w as as the voice of thunder (Exo. 20:18) 2. God spoke to Christ in the voice of thunder (John 12:29) 3. Job said God spoke through the thunder (Job 40:9)

B. John was told not to write what the seven thunders said

1. In Psalms 29 the voice of the Lord is mentioned:

a. The voice of the Lord thunders upon the waters (v-3) b. The voice of the Lord is full of majesty (v-4) c. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon (v-5) d. The voice of the Lord divides the flames (v-7) e. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness (v-8) f. The voice of the Lord makes the hinds to calve (v-9) g. The voice of the Lord is heard in His temple (v-9)

Note: Is there any clue as to what the seven thunders were uttering?

Scholars note that the seven thunders are similar to a Coptic text in which seven Greek vowels often function as a mysterious divine name. Sometimes it appears in the form of Alpha and Omega in an abbreviated way of referring to all seven vowels. 2. Are they uttering a secret name?

a. God’s sacred name was YHVH and Christ ’s name was Yeshua (these names were known) b. In Rev. 19:12 Jesus has a secret name that will be revealed when He becomes King (19:12-16) c. He “has a nam e written that no man knew but H e himself” ( we get a new name and so does he)

Note: At the seventh angel ’ s trump the mystery of God is finished
