selves are then much more able to keep them out afterwards. Let me give you a couple of examples. Martha (not her real name) is a Christian woman in her 40's. She accepted Jesus Christ about six years before I met her. Prior to that time she was a Buddhist. Her father was a powerful Buddhist priest who had performed many demon ic healings. At the time of his death Martha received all of his demons. As soon as she accepted Jesus as her Lord, the demons rose up within her to try to kill her. Her life was a continuous torment from that point on. Under demonic control she drank lye, and when that did not kill her, made several other attempts to commit suicide. She told me that she could not read the Bible be cause every time she tried to do so, her hands, under demonic control, ripped up the Bible and threw it across the room. She and her husband (who became a Christian at the same time as Martha) had bought many Bibles through the years. Martha had been through a number of attempted deliverances, but none were successful. As I sought the Lord in prayer as to the "key" in Martha's case, He showed me that she had never learned to take up the power and authority available to her in the name of Jesus to overcome the demons. Martha and her husband came to our home one Sunday. We prayed together, then Martha renounced all the demons. I explained to her that she must kick the demons out with the power of Jesus Christ. I gave her a Bible and told her to start reading from Colossians. As she started reading aloud, the demons sur faced and threw the Bible across the room. This happened over and over again as I helped Martha learn to rebuke the demons out loud in the name of Jesus. It took three hours of coaching before Martha finally, with repeated prayers to the Lord asking for wisdom and strength, learned to recog nize when the demons were starting to take control of her body.
