giving because you want an eternal reward in heaven? After all, when you depart this life, surviving family members will get your house, drive your car, and sit at your dinner table spending what money you left behind. It is very sad when the only way people can be stirred to give an offering to a ministry or a church is when the speaker has spent sixty minutes promising believers what they will get here instead of what they will have where they are going . Please understand that God does bless our giving here. We receive “good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over” (Luke 6:38). I am not minimizing the blessing that follows giving. However, I am grieved that the motive for giving has been corrupted and the reason for giving has been lost in all the stuff. All blessings are based upon the promises of the Word of God. Yet the Word of God must be spoken or preached to enter the hearts of the people. I have preached one message and seen more than a hundred people come to Christ in a single evangelistic service. On several occasions, after I preached on the Holy Spirit baptism, more than two hundred fifty people were baptized in the Holy Spirit in one service.
