If we look at the references to the harvest in the New Testament, Christ’s ultimate concern and passion was, and still is, the ingathering of eternal souls into the kingdom of God. In each of the above passages, the ingathering and harvest refers not to natural seed or financial increase but to winning people for the kingdom, those whose eternal souls are priceless! The purpose of the new covenant and the Word of God is to produce eternal fruit for the eternal kingdom of God. All of our financial giving should be geared to bringing in spiritual results for the kingdom of God, and the earthly blessings that follow should be an enjoyable side benefit —but not our main or only motivation for giving. Too many times our prayers and even the inspiration for our giving are motivated more by our fleshy desires than our eternal spiritual results. More stuff, a bigger and better home, a new luxury car … ! Whatever happened to
