the Jordan River and just behind the city of Jericho. Having visited these very mountains on countless occasions, the silence and solitude are almost like another world compared to the hustle and noise of a town or community. When Christ was in Galilee, His meeting location with the Father was a mountain where He could be found in times of early morning solitude praying (Matt. 14:23; Mark 6:46). We read in Luke 6:12, “Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” It appears that the majority of Christ’s prayer time was in the night or the early hours of the morning while the people were sleeping, as during the day multitudes sought Him out seeking healing or blessing. When Christ was in the city of Jerusalem, He marked a special location for prayer time, the Garden of Gethsemane. This was a garden of olive trees and, during the warm months, flowers located on the edge of the Kidron Valley at the base of the famed Mount of Olives. The disciples, including Judas, knew of this prayer spot: “When Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples over the Brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which He and His disciples entered. And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples” (John 18:1-2). Even in this garden Christ was praying at night when the Roman soldiers arrived to arrest Him (John 18). Notice that in each region Christ had a specific outdoor location selected for
