Your personal secret place must be a place that is separate from both the busy traffic path of people and the busyness (cares of life) often accompanied with the daily routine. In Matthew 6:6 ( KJV ) Christ spoke of a person entering their prayer closet and shutting the door. The word closet refers to a chamber in a house or a spot for retirement in a house, such as a bedroom. For example, when I was a teenage evangelist, the churches where I ministered were small rural churches, and I always stayed in the home of the local pastor or a church member. I recall that the bedroom where I slept was also my main “prayer closet,” in the sense that I spent the day in study and prayer at a small desk in the room throughout the day. At times I took the verse literally concerning the prayer closet and cleared out a closet to use for prayer time. Many times the church was located next door, and my prayer time was spent walking the aisles of the small church during the day, hours before ministering at night. It was during these times of prayer that I received the messages I would minister that night in the services. Prayer time would often last one to three hours each day. Each time I sought the Lord in this manner, He honored that time through great results in the altar services the same night. This is because part of the prayer during the day was exercising spiritual authority over the powers of the enemy by rebuking, binding, and commanding the powers of the enemy to loose the people attending the
