contradictory that although many mainline churches believe the Holy Spirit is the Comforter and the Teacher who assists in your ability to recall the Scriptures, using passages from John’s Gospel to prove their point, yet the part about “telling you things to come” is omitted at times. It is only used to exclaim that He reveals the correct interpretation of Bible prophecy to you. All of this is correct, but the Holy Spirit also provides believers with warnings and instruction through the inward leading of the Spirit and as we pray with understanding or in the Spirit (Rom. 8:26–28; 1 Cor. 14:14–15). The Book of Acts is called the Acts of the Apostles . However, it is actually the Acts of the Holy Spirit! Without the power of the Holy Spirit, there would be few acts of the apostles! The nine gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12 are not the gifts of the apostles but the “gifts of the Holy Spirit,” and they will continue until the return of the Lord (1 Cor. 1:7). The Almighty began His story with man by walking with Adam in the Garden of Eden, and there was never a time in the four thousand years from Adam to Christ that God was not revealing Himself or His truth to a people. The Bible is the final written revelation from God, and there are no new truths beyond the revelation of Scripture; but there is fresh insight from old truth. Christ taught: Then He said to them, “Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.” —M ATTHEW 13:52
