spiritual bridge over dark waters that a believer should never cross. A believer must rely upon biblical methods to receive spiritual insight, direction, and the path for the future. We can all be assured that Christ will return (1 Thess. 4:16– 17). The righteous dead will be raised at the resurrection (1 Cor. 15:52). Heaven does exist, and we will see the New Jerusalem (Rev. 22). And we will rule and reign with Christ for a thousand years if we are faithful (Rev. 20:1–4). In those areas where a personal prayer requires an answer, we must rely upon the promises of God’s Word and understand that He can reveal Himself to us—primarily through the Scriptures and, at various times and seasons, through His Holy Spirit’s gifts (1 Cor. 12:7–10) or through a dream or a vision. THE REAL PROPHETIC Turning our attention from the false to the real, it is important for believers to understand that God can and will reveal truth to His children. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 14 that believers can speak by “revelation” (vv. 6, 26). This word in Greek is apokalupsis and alludes to something hidden that is disclosed and made known. Prior to Christ’s suffering, resurrection, and ascension, He encouraged His disciples by predicting that when He departed from them, He would send “another Comforter,” which is the Holy Spirit (John 14:16, KJV ; 16:7, KJV ).
