and demons have existed from the earliest days of mankind. In Revelation we read of Michael the archangel battling Satan and casting the accuser from the second heaven to the earth during the final tribulation (Rev. 12:7– 9). Yet we also read where the same angel, Michael, in centuries past, battled Satan for the body of Moses upon the death of the prophet (Jude 9). These two wars were with the same angels, yet more than thirty-five hundred years apart. The angel Gabriel brought heavenly understanding to Daniel, and hundreds of years later appeared to Zacharias and Mary (Dan. 9:21; Luke 1:19–35). Since both angels and demons are spirit beings, and spirits never age and continually exist from generation to generation, they are familiar with the location, people, and circumstances in the region where they have dwelt and have had rulership for centuries. This may be why when Christ commanded the evil spirits to depart from the possessed man in Mark 5, the spirits requested that Christ would not send them out of the country (the region where they were, Mark 5:10) and that He would not confine them, at that moment, in the “deep,” which is “the abyss” or bottomless pit in the Greek (Luke 8:31, KJV ). These evil spirits were aware that Christ was the Son of God (Matt. 3:17). This was known from the time of His conception (Luke 1:31–35) to the time of His presentation in the temple (Luke 2:22–38) and during the season of His forty-day temptation prior to His public ministry (Luke 4:1–14). The first prophecy in the Bible was given by God Himself after Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. God predicted, “I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head” (Gen. 3:15, KJV ). Thus, the
