After studying angels and their ministry for many years, I believe they can be divided into three ministry categories. There are angels who are created as warriors , who are workers, and who are worshippers . Michael is the leader of the warring angels; when Michael is mentioned in Scripture, he is the angel of warfare and battle. He disputed with Satan over the body of Moses (Jude 9), engaged in war with the prince of the kingdom of Persia (Dan. 10:13, 21), and, in the future, will gather his angels to war against Satan and to cast him and his wicked forces out of the second heaven to the earth during the tribulation (Rev. 12). Michael and his angels are warring spirits doing battle against the kingdom of darkness. The worker angels are “ministering spirits” and are sent to minister to believers (Heb. 1:14). When Gabriel appears, he is an angel on special assignment, bringing revelation directly from God to prophets. He was commissioned to bring revelation of children’s birth to Zacharias, Elizabeth, and Mary (Luke 1). Gabriel is a worker engaged in linking the heavenly realm to the earthly. These could also be the same type of angels Jacob observed ascending and descending upon the ladder stretching from earth to heaven (Gen. 28:12). This leaves the third category—the worshipping angels. Since this anointed cherub was upon the holy mountain on the stones of fire and had a covering of nine stones similar to the high priest’s breastplate, it appears that the worshipping
