Satan also has four faces . Using the face of a man, he tempts mankind and uses men to lead other men into temptation and sin. The face of a lion identifies Satan as a “roaring lion” (1 Pet. 5:8), seeking “whom he may devour.” The face of the eagle is unique, as the eagle is the prince of birds and can fly higher than most of the winged creatures. This is the image of Satan being the “prince of the power of the air” (Eph. 2:2). The ox is an earthly creature known for wearing a yoke and can become a picture of the face of Satan, whose goal is to bring people into captivity and bondage. In summary, Satan was originally an anointed cherub, not a god as he desired to become. He is not equal with God but is continually in competition with God for the eternal souls of men. T HE D IVISION OF THE A NGELS There are numerous Jewish and Christian traditions concerning the numbers and names of the angels. However, in the Bible there are only three specific angels named by name. The first is Michael the archangel (Dan. 10:13, 21; 12:1), Gabriel (Dan. 8:16; 9:21), and this anointed cherub, or Satan (Rev. 12:9).
