CHAPTER 14 THE SELDOM-SPOTTED STRATEGY OF CALLING YOUR BLUFF
P ERSONALLY I DON’T play cards, but I recall hearing a term used in card games that actually is a strategy used in spiritual warfare. The term is calling your bluff , a term used in a poker game. When someone is bluffing , that person is pretending that the cards he is holding are better than they really are. This is done in hopes that the opponent will give up. It can also mean that you think someone may be lying, and you call his bluff to force him to prove what he is saying is true. An example would be a young person who is angry at her parent’s discipline and says, “I am going to leave home and go get an apartment!” The parent knows the child has no money, no job, and no car. So the parent responds: “If that’s what you want, I guess you are old enough to get a job and make your own way.” Usually the child remains at home, and the issues eventually get settled.
