straight” (v. 13). Jesus “loosed” her from the spirit by saying, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity” (v. 12). By Jesus commanding her to be “loosed,” He released this woman from the authority and control of the sickness itself. I do acknowledge that sickness entered the world at the fall of Adam, but I do not believe all sickness is the result of a spirit. There are some diseases that are inherited and others that can come upon a believer or unbeliever by lack of exercise, not eating properly, or by stress, guilt, condemnation, and a host of other negative emotions. It is biblical that spirits can attack the physical bodies of a believer. When Paul wrote to the church at Corinth concerning the Lord’s Supper (the Communion of the bread and fruit of the vine), he warned that if the believers did not discern the Lord’s body properly and partook of the Communion “in an unworthy manner,” it would have a negative effect upon them. He wrote: “For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep [died prematurely],” because they did not discern the Lord’s body. (See 1 Corinthians 11:27–30). When a professor from a major Christian college was asked, “Can a Christian have a demon?”, he pondered a moment then replied: “A Christian can have whatever he or she wants!” I understood this statement.
