Our society wants to eat three meals a day and lose weight, exercise while resting in the recliner watching TV, lose pounds while sleeping, and get a paycheck without working hard. Solomon says, “He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich” (Prov. 10:4). The reason some Americans are not diligent at work is that too many are working at jobs they do not enjoy. The most diligent workers are those who birthed the business (or ministry) or those who are paid well for their abilities and take to heart their desire to see growth and results. A good financial reward motivates gifted and diligent workers to pursue positive results and financial increase in their workplace. If there is one word to sum up the Jewish way of life in the business realm it is diligence . Some people work harder , and others work smarter . Working eighteen hours a day for six days every week may win you the “He worked the hardest and the longest” award, but you’ll never receive the “He worked the smartest” award. Working eighteen hours a day for six consecutive days will eventually put you in bed for a long unwanted rest or a wooden boxfor a permanent vacation .
