When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep— So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man. —Proverbs 6:9–11 Solomon warned against the danger of being a “sluggard” (Prov. 13:4; 26:16). A sluggard is a mentally and physically lazy individual. A sluggard continually procrastinates, putting off until later what should be done now (Prov. 20:4). A sluggard stays up late, sleeps in late, and is always running late for school, work, and appointments (Prov. 6:9). Sluggards are about as easy to motivate as a sleeping elephant. Sluggards will always lack and never make their financial ends meet. They are people who always dream about doing and having and getting but never do, have, or get (Prov. 13:4). The way to defeat slothfulness is to develop diligence:
The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.

Solomon says: Be diligent and you’ll find gold. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
