This is an example of carnal wisdom used for a positive purpose, to defeat an adversary.3 True spiritual wisdom is the ability to solve life’s problems by activating the principles and promises in the Word of God. This is “wisdom from above,” which comes to us through the greatest teacher, the Holy Spirit. With His help we can apply the Word to a particular situation, thus creating a solution or finding the needed answer to the problem. Devout Jews understand the importance of wisdom and recognize that using the wisdom principles revealed in the Book of Proverbs will build character, integrity, and honesty—three power triplets needed to truly succeed in family matters, relationships, and business. We see one example of Solomon’s wisdom in 1 Kings 3:16– 28. Two women approached Solomon with one child, both claiming to be the child’s mother. One pointed to the other, saying, “She rolled over on her child last night, killing it, and now she’s saying my child is hers.” The other woman repeated the same story, accusing her adversary of accidentally killing her child, then saying the living infant was hers. Solomon observed the situation and then requested a sword. He said, “I will cut the child in half, and you can both have half of the child.” Immediately, one woman yelled, “No, don’t do it. Just give her the child; I don’t want to see the child die!” Solomon handed the child to the woman who had cried out. After all, only the real mother would want her child to live—even if another woman raised it. This was a manifestation of spiritual
