God instructed Israel that one of the first manifestations of His judgment upon the nation would be they would experience "terror." I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror (Leviticus 26:16). The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs (Deuteronomy 32:25). America has fought several wars on our own soil, including the Revolution and the Civil War. Never in our young history have we fought a war with such a small group of people (19 hijackers) whose actions impacted the economy and increased the fear factor so quickly. It was as though the Almighty allowed a protective hedge to be lifted for a brief period of time, to say to America, "Here is what can happen if I am not protecting you." T HE P ENALTY FOR S HEDDING I NNOCENT B LOOD ? Sooner or later America had to answer for some of our choices. This is not to say that the deaths of over 3,000 people is in some way compensation for past mistakes, but yet many people felt the nation was on a collision course with tragedy.
