In the Summer of 1999, my good friend, Joe Van Koevering, was in New York to tape some programs for "God's News Behind The News." One of the filming locations was the riverbank opposite Manhattan's skyline. Joe and the crew were attempting to tape, but without much success. Finally, at the end of an attempted taping, a plane flew directly overhead, creating such a noise that using the film was impossible. The footage was considered to be insignificant and useless . . . that is, until it resurfaced just days after the 9/11 attacks! Then it sent chills through everyone who viewed it. As Joe stood on the banks of the Hudson River, the towers of the World Trade Center loomed notably over his shoulders. At the climax of his comments, Joe lifted his hand, unaware of the fact that his finger was pointing directly at the pinnacle of the towers. Just as he said that God would "cast down" the false gods of America, Joe's hand came down, almost tracing the same deadly path those towers would take to destruction. Was it a coincidence, or an eerie hint at what would happen some two years later? Could it be that God wanted to warn us of what would lie ahead? W HAT THE B IBLE F ORESAW If we as believers accept that God is in control of human history, then we must accept that God allowed, the events of that day to unfold. If this is true, we must ask the question "Why?"
