Dr. Asher Kauffman, noted professor at Jerusalem's Hebrew University, was able to walk the Temple Mount and take pictures and measurements prior to its being turned over to the Muslims. He found visible evidence of the Jewish Temple on the Mount itself. A few years later, these stones and other important objects were removed from the Mount in an attempt to destroy any and all evidence of a Jewish Temple (Source: Biblical Archeology Review ). The possibility that the Jews may one day attempt to take control of the Mount is of utmost concern to the Palestinian Authority. They are aware that many Evangelical Christians believe a Jewish Temple will be built in the future. They are also well informed about several organizations such as the Temple Mount Faithful and the Temple Institute that are heavily involved in researching and planning a future Temple. This is one of several reasons the Middle East Muslims are making plans to build the largest mosque in the world on the Temple Mount. O PENING THE E ASTERN G ATE My reliable sources indicate there have been discussions among key Islamic leaders about moving some of the graves in front of the Eastern Gate in Jerusalem, along with the stones that now seal up the gate. A ramp would then be built, enabling worshipers to enter the Temple Mount from the east. This idea was on the drawing board before the 1967 war.
