The Male’s “Suitable Helper”

So the woman was God ‘s idea. He made the woman sp e cifically so that the man could have somebody with whom to enjoy creation and share the dominion of the earth. God said, “I will make a helper suitable for him” (Gen. 2:18). The King James Version uses the words “help meet” rather than “helper suitable” as in the New International Ver sion or “helper comparable” as in the New King James Ver sion. “Help meet” is not a Hebrew expression, and it‘s not a

guage based on this King James translation, and they have remained in the language. However, because our use of words has changed, they do not fully capture the concept the Bible is conveying here about the role of the woman. The woman is not just someone who helps here and there while the men do the real work. “Meet” actually means ―fit‖— something that is suitable, compatible, or comparable. This means that females are a perfect match for males in fulfilling God‘s purposes. God designed the woman to fulfill her purpose of being a compatible helper for the man. Everything in her is designed to help. Now, the last thing many men want women to be lieve is that they need their help. Yet God announced from the beginning that a man needs a woman‘s help. Again, this is true for all men, not just married men. Males need females not only in the family, but in society, in all of life.
