Because men put a strong emphasis on their jobs and are not as emotionally connected to their physical surround ings, they have a tendency to be nomadic as they look for new career opportunities. Conversely, many women have a great need for security and roots. While a move due to a new job seems like an adventure for a man and signals progress in his career, it can be stressful and difficult for his wife, who has to leave family and friends behind for an uncertain fu ture. Women will also change geographic locations for jobs; however, married women are less willing to make a move to advance their own jobs than the y are for their husbands‘ jobs. They are less inclined to want to disrupt the lives of their families, especially when they have children. On the other hand, when it comes to encountering some thing new, men tend to stand back and evaluate at first.
