Once believers experience a “trial of their faith” and pass the test, they will emerge as gold that was tried in a fire: That the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ. —1 PETER 1:7 When Satan set out to sift Simon Peter, Jesus revealed that an attack was coming; He also revealed He had already preceded Satan’s attack by praying for Peter that “his faith should not fail” (Luke 22:32). The purpose of this attack was revealed: to embarrass Peter and bring such condemnation to him that he would quit the ministry and just give up. In reality, practically every attack a believer experiences in his or her life will in some manner be an assault against that believer’s faith —what that believer says he or she believes in the Word and what he or she has taught others to believe. Satan enjoys challenging what God has said. Remember that the first temptation in the garden occurred when the adversary came to Eve and questioned, “Has God indeed said . . . ?” (Gen. 3:1).
