3. T HEY FIGHT OVER PROBLEMS. A fight will always come to an end when one of the two individuals lays down his sword (bitter words), humbling himself, and either repents or walks away. But since no one wants to lose in a fight, two opponents just stand there and keep taking the verbal blows and sharp words, acting as though they are Ironman and Superwoman and nothing said will harm them. There are times to simply walk away and say nothing, because to speak will just create more problems. Solomon wrote, “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Prov. 15:1). Also, “Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; and where there is no talebearer, strife ceases” (Prov. 26:20). 4. T HEY FORGET THE PROBLEMS. Some people walk away and act as if what was said or done had no impact upon them. Their attitude is, “Oh, just forget it!” However, the unresolved clash stays in the back of their mind. Others have an ability to let problems just roll off their mind and not dwell on them. Paul wrote, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:13–14). 5. T HEY FACE THE PROBLEMS. This is the only solution for maintaining peace and victory— to come face-to-face with your problem. A sinner cannot be saved until he admits he is a sinner.
