ancient victory—a war celebration. There are several different parts of the ancient triumph celebration: 1. They rode in a chariot pulled by white horses.
2. They wore royal robes. 3. They wore gold tunics.
4. They wore crowns of victory. 5. They painted their faces red. 6. They held scepters.
7. They were surrounded by victorious soldiers. 8. The enemy was paraded around in chains. 9. The victors got the spoils of the war. Notice the similar parallels in 2 Thessalonians and the Book of Revelation: 1. We will ride on white horses (Rev. 19:14). 2. We will be clothed in white robes of righteousness (Rev. 7:9; 19:14). 3. Christ will be wearing many crowns (v. 12). 4. Christ’s coming will be bright—in flaming fire (2 Thess. 1:8). 5. Christ will rule with a rod of iron (Rev. 19:15). 6. Christ will return with the armies of heaven (v. 14).
