warned of seducing spirits and doctrines of devils to be unleashed in the latter times (1 Tim. 4:1, KJV ). Christ warned of spiritual deception and false prophets (Matt. 24:4, 11). There will also be widespread offenses that will cause friends to turn against one another (vv. 10–12). These spiritual struggles are combined with an atmosphere of great fear (Luke 21:26), great wrath (Rev. 12:12), and a future great tribulation (Matt. 24:21). Peter predicted that in the last days men would mock and scoff at the message of Christ’s return (2 Pet. 3:3). The modern church must choose between having a form of godliness and denying the power (2 Tim. 3:1–5), or becoming a fire brand with a light burning bright. All of the above events and circumstances could overwhelm a believer and plant seeds of fear that breed the fruit of depression and discouragement. However, God never leaves a generation without a war strategy and weapons to win the moral, spiritual, and even political conflicts of their time. A VIEW OF THE LAST-DAY ARMY OF GOD At the peak of Christ’s ministry the multitudes offered to make Him a king, with the motive that He (through miraculous power) would defeat the Roman enemies. Christ refused, as the offer was useless and the timing was off. His kingdom message was one of deliverance from sin, sickness, and death, clashing with an invisible array of satanic rebels and bringing them into captivity to His name, His Word, and His will. His army was spiritual, with spiritual weapons and a sword of the Word. The same army exists today but will arise in the time of the end for their largest assignment in history!
