I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live. —DEUTERONOMY 30:19–20 Moses did write to “choose,” but to “choose life”! When a woman chooses life and gives birth to her child, her descendants will live! This methodology of self-interpreting a scripture has been a method of abuse among carnal ministers and members. In our generation there have been ministers who have divorced their wife for another woman, as she was “a better choice for their ministry.” They had no biblical basis, and when confronted, some quoted the verse that says that a bishop is to be the “husband of one wife” (1 Tim. 3:2, 12; Titus 1:6). One man’s response was, “According to some scholars, this means one wife at a time!” I have also known men who left their wives for another woman and would use the story of David and Bathsheba, saying, “David committed adultery, and the Lord let him remain as the king, so I can continue in what I am doing because I am God’s anointed too!” They seldom bring out the fact that the judgment of God came to David’s house, and four of his sons (the infant from Bathsheba, Amnon, Absalom, and Adonijah) experienced a premature death as the sword never departed his house (2 Sam. 12:10).
