The prophet's handbook
example:
Some only sang. Others only wailed. A few cried and wept in travail or as wailing vessels of the deity’s sorrow or injury. Others ranted and raved as in spiritual warfare. Some decried and declared prophetic statements to illustrate what the deity was doing with their petitions. Some entered into, acted out, or incited military strategy. Some simply peered into the supernatural and uttered what was seen. Some summoned and actuated the supernatural with prayers, descriptive utterances, or authoritative commands. Some ecstatically worshipped until spiritual manifestations appeared. Some sacrificed animals to coax spiritual activity. (Our Lamb has been sacrificed.) Others imbibed various concoctions, narcotics, or hallucinogens to stimulate and awaken their spiritual receptors to identify and define what the deity’s spiritual hosts were doing. (We are drunk with the Holy Spirit.) Many simply offered prayers and fell asleep to receive instructions in the form of a vision or a dream. Numbers 24 shows Balaam using this method. He always went off to sleep in order to hear from God. That is how he received his famous “I see Him but not now” prophecy for Israel.
