The connection between the Lord and His ministers under these circumstances is rigid and distinct. Enormous latitude and trust are accorded those whom Jesus baptizes with His chrio anointing. Their obedience must be firmly established and their motives and agenda beyond suspicion. These being confirmed, the Lord imparts chrio’s powerful authority and potency, because without them those called to His service would fail in the face of the severe trials and contests associated with ministry. The Prophetic and Chrio With the prophetic, the chrio anointing is centered primarily in the dispensation of prophecy, although not exclusively. Several noticeable sensations can accompany the onset of the prophecy anointing. Jeremiah spoke of quaking, burning, weakness, or loss of strength. In relation to the prophecy anointing, Daniel spoke of a heaviness that weighed him down and something akin to passing out—what we call today being slain in the Spirit. Some prophets voiced a distinct weight placed upon them that they identified as the hand of the Lord upon them to prophesy. Usually they felt this in the shoulder, neck, and back area, as the term yoke is synonymous with mantle. Others identified the massa prophetic burden for the oracle. While such sensations are not essential to prophecy, the Bible often mentions the weight of prophetic oracle being felt by the prophet. It seemed to be its heaviest when the message was being deposited in the prophet for later utterance. The Source of Prophetic Power People invariably ask what makes a prophet’s words come to pass.
