B. The Story of Nero (Written by Archbishop in 1275)

1. Nero wanted to kill his mother

“ The physician and masters blamed him, and said he should not slay his mother that had borne him with sorrow and pain. Then said he: Make me with, and after to be delivered, that I may know what pain my mother suffered. Which by craft they gave him a young frog to drink, and it grew in his belly and then he said: But if you make me to be delivered I shall slay you all: and so they gave him such a drink that he had a vomit and cast out the frog, and bare him on hand that because that he abode not his time it was mis shapen, which yet he made to be kept.” - The Lives of the Saints, Jacobus de Voragine, Archbishop 1275

a. Nero ordered the frog to be kept as his heir at his palace (in the hidden frog basilica ) b. After his suicide (68 AD) the Romans found the frog and threw it out of the city c. A palace was built on the site called lateo “ hidden ” and rana for “ frog ” d. Location Basilica of St. John Lateran – The Basilica of the Popes e. The palace was once the Pope ’ s residence; it is now a museum f. John knew the story of Nero and the frog (coming out of the mouth of Nero ) g. Three major demons deceive men to battle at Armageddon

C. Note the events occurring at this time:

1. In Rev. 16:16, God gathers the nations together at the Valley of Armageddon 2. In Rev. 16:19, a great earthquake in Jerusalem (divided into three parts) 3. In Rev. 16:19, there is then a great worldwide earthquake (the cities of nations fall)

D. The “cities of the n ations f ell” (Rev. 16:19)

1. There is a “ring of fire” – the coastal areas along the edge of the continents near oceans 2. 25,000 mile horseshoe shaped basin; 452 active volcanoes; 75% of world ’ s volcanoes 3. 90% of t he world’s quakes and 80% of the largest are in this regi on of the world 4. In Rev. 16:20, a great destruction of islands and mountains (possible tsunamis) 5. In Rev. 16:21, a great hail falls on men (a talent is 100 lbs. of silver) 6. Men “repented not” (16:9) . They blasphemed God and repented not (16:11)

THE JUDGMENT ON THE HARLOT ON THE BEAST

1. Revelation 17 – Mystery Babylon the harlot is a religious system that is judged 2. Revelation 18 – Babylon in this chapter is an economic system that is judged

There is the BEAST (kingdom) and the WOMAN (a city and religious harlot)

A. The history of Babylon (in Iraq)

1. The first Babylon was the tower of Babel in Genesis 11 2. The next major Babylon was founded and expanded by King Nebuchadnezzar
