A. The beliefs concerning the antichrist

1. The antichrist is an evil principle but not a literal person 2. The antichrist is a person but a person of the past like Nero, Titus, etc. 3. The antichrist is a system and not a person (such as the Papacy or the Vatican) 4. The antichrist is a person who will appear at the end of days

B. The word Christ

1. In the Old Testament the word Messiah (Dan. 9:25-26) is Meshiach or the “anointed one.” 2. In the New Testament the word Christ is Christos and refers to the “anointed one.”

C. The teaching of the antichrist

1. The Greek word antichrist is anti christos and can mean an “opponent of the Messiah.” 2. The word is often said to mean one who stands against Christ 3 . The word “ anti christ” is found in four places - 1 John 2:18, 22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7

D. Three main points concerning the antichrist

1. The antichrist is a spirit that was working even in Joh n’s day 2. The antichrist is a spirit that denies the father and the S on and Christ’s divinity 3. The antichrist is a person that will arise at the end of days

Note: He is identified with the personal pronoun he (2 Thess. 2:4, 6-7; 1 John 2:22; Rev. 13:6)

E. The symbolism used

1 . He is called the “little horn” (Dan. 7:7 -8) 2 . The “horn” is mentioned five times in Daniel and all five references refer to one man 3. The beast system has seven heads and ten horns (they receive crowns in the tribulation)

Revelation 13 will reveal more details concerning the antichrist and his false prophet
