Well, whoever pulled that little trick should have something to think about since it didn't work. I'll transfer Elaine up to ICU (Intensive Care Unit) tonight and take the tube out in the morning. I'd like to know what I'm sup posed to write in her chart about this that doesn't sound completely crazy." Muttering under his breath and shaking his head, Jerry left the room. Rebecca leaned down and smoothed the hair back off Elaine's forehead. "It's O.K., honey," she said, "The Lord is on the job as usual. I'm sorry you had to have such a horrible experience. Did you get a look at who put that stuff in your I.V.?" Elaine shook her head no. Rebecca sighed. When would this all end? She glanced at her watch. It was past midnight. She would stay with Elaine until she was transferred to the ICU before going home. The incident with the Pavulon in Elaine's I.V. was just one of many attempts to kill Elaine. The battle had been unend ing and Elaine's illness seemed to have no cure in sight. Not only were there the attempts to kill Elaine, but continu ous catastrophic illnesses occurred. First the overwhelming kidney infection which had ended up in a sepsis (infection in the blood stream). Then the blood clot in her leg which had moved up into her lung nearly killing her by almost de stroying a large portion of one of her lungs. Then another infection followed by another clot. More recently, the fre quent episodes where Elaine had simply stopped breathing for no explainable reason and had to be placed on a ventila tor to breathe for her. Tonight the Lord had revealed the explanation for the apnea (no breathing) episodes. Rebecca was really getting discouraged and so was Elaine. She had not had one uninterrupted night's sleep since
