If you have further questions about these areas, I would strongly recommend that you read the book The Spiritual Man, by Watchman Nee which gives excellent scriptural references and an explanation of these areas. Demonic Manifestations I find this to be one of the most misunderstood and abused areas in deliverance. Most deliverance workers command the demons to "manifest" before casting them out. I do not find a scriptural basis for this. Quite the opposite. Only in one instance did Jesus specifically ask a demon its name, and in that instance the demon had spoken to Him first. That is in the case of the man possessed by the demon, Legion. Other than that, Jesus consistently commanded the demons to be silent, refusing to talk with them. We are on dangerous ground if we do not fo1low His example. Too many Christians involved in deliverance become fascinated by their contact with the spirit world. They enjoy talking to the demons! In so doing, they are committing the sin of having a familiar spirit. God does not want His people conversing with demons. They are all liars and they are very intelligent. They quickly play up to a person's ego, inflating their pride. Pride is the most dangerous pitfall in the area of deliverance. It is all too easy to begin to feel a "thrill" of power as the demons leave at your command. Recently, I spoke with a young pastor who had just had his first experience casting demons out of a person. He told me, "I have never felt such power! Nothing could stop me, nothing could make me afraid. I had complete power over those demons!" That statement showed me that he had already put his foot squarely into Satan's trap.
