I will discuss in more detail some ways to handle passivity at the time of deliverance in a later section. Human Spirit Control Another area often overlooked is the area of the human spirit. I suppose this is the most frequent trouble spot I have encountered. The scripture quoted earlier in this chap ter in II Corinthians 7:1 states clearly that our spirits must be cleaned out. It is most helpful to find out just how much control the person has established over his spirit body, and/or how much control somebody else had established over that person's spirit. The examples given in Chapter 16 apply here. Teaching I consider the pre-deliverance counseling a very important part of deliverance. This should also be an intensive teach ing session. If you do not teach the person how to take au thority over demons and rebuke them himself, then he will not keep them out afterwards. You must also teach them how to recognize their attacks. I often counsel with a person on more than one occasion before we actually command the demons to leave. Nothing is more discouraging to anyone than having the demons all come back in again. Lastly, I cannot emphasize enough the need to ask the Lord about each specific person before you try to help them. If we take on any battle without the specific command of our Captain, Jesus, you are only asking for trouble. DELIVERANCE The Lord never does anything through routines or rituals. Each person is a unique individual, and the Lord treats them as such. No two deliverances will be the same. If they were, we would quickly come to depend upon the ritual rather than the Lord.
