deliverance. You must be sure they understand the need to put sin out of their lives. In some cases, such as homosexuality, the key to helping a person stop their sin, is deliverance. Demons of sexual perversion are frequently so powerful that the person will not be able to stand against them as long as he is still indwelt by them. However, once the demons have been cast out, the person will still have a battle. He cannot make any excuses. He must stand firm. Look for Doorways· Another important area to explore in the pre-deliverance counseling is just how the demons got in in the first place. A truly repentant person will not attempt to hide his sins. However, many people do, especially those involved in the occult. Rarely will they be willing to tell you just how deeply they were involved. Be careful, because if you don't have a good understanding of just what they have participated in, most likely you won't be able to get all the demons out. Then the demons remaining will allow all the others to come right back in and more. This results in much discour agement and anguish for the individual. The doorway through which the demons came in, is often hard to find. Sometimes doorways come from surprising sources which the people themselves don't realize. Let me give you the example of Lydia (not her real name). Lydia, a lady in her sixties, came to me saying that she felt she surely had a demonic problem. She had served the Lord all her life, becoming a Christian in early childhood. Reading the Bible and praying was the joy of her life until about seven years prior to our meeting. She told me that she had had increasing difficulty reading the Bible until, within the last year, she had been unable to read it at all. (This is a pretty typical sign of demonic infestation.)
