He had a conscious awareness of his spiritu al body the same as he had a conscious awareness of his physical body. His soul (conscious intellect and will) con trolled both his spiritual and physical bodies. But, at the fall, spiritual death took place - that is, Adam was no longer consciously aware of his spiritual body, and thus could not commune with the Lord as he had once done.
