He began to send prophets or "covenant messengers" to a covenant people to warn them of their covenant violation to give them a chance to repent before God's covenant wrath would come upon them. The prophets repeatedly said that there is no peace to the wicked. If a prophet tells you that you will have a life of peace and you are violating God's Word—His covenant—the prophet is lying, because you will not experience shalom or peace or prosperity if you are not living in covenant with God. When someone is wicked and unrighteous, they are not at peace. Do not be fooled. God promised Israel that if they would keep His commandments, He would give them that shalom. But they did not listen. However, God had a plan that would not only restore Israel, if they chose, but His plan would also extend to all mankind. In Jeremiah 31:31-34 God told the people that they would not be able to experience His peace under the old covenant because they continued to break it. He was alluding to the fact that they would only be able to experience God's true peace by way of the Messiah. The Messiah would come to make a new covenant. He came preaching the good news of the kingdom. The only way you can experience the true shalom of God is through His Son—"the Prince of Peace" (Isa. 9:6). Jesus came preaching the "gospel of peace" (Rom. 10:15; Eph. 6:15)—or the gospel of shalom, the gospel of the kingdom. So we have to repent and receive the gospel of peace. ONLY ONE WAY TO TRUE PEACE
