Plucking the Eagle's Wings
Restoring the Strength of the Eagle
physically experiences the process called molting. Five things happen simultaneously during the time period and the physical process: • The feathers of the eagle begin to fall out. • Calcium builds up on the eagle's beak, making it difficult to eat. • The eagle can lose its appetite. • Instead of flying, the eagle walks on the ground and becomes too weak to fly. • The eagle's eyes become dry and they no longer cry. Perhaps America is going through its own molting period. Just as an eagle's feathers helped to guide them, we were once being guided into the path of truth and righteousness, but we are now being misguided into unrighteous paths based on ungodly ideas. Hard working, tax-paying Christians face intimidation as they carry their Bibles to work and witness to fellow workers, or place religious symbols on their desks. While the local church still exercises its religious freedom, public work places and schools are sometimes inaccessible to Christians who want to share Christ. This represents our mouths being restrained, just as the calcium deposits weigh down the eagle's beak. The appetite for spiritual truth is dull in many areas. Traditional churches are forced to close their doors for lack of interest. There is a love for the wilderness, or the wild things, instead of taking the higher road where the atmosphere is clear and clean. There is hardness in the hearts of many, as we no longer weep over death, carnage, suicide, murder, and crime. Voices From the Edge of Eternity Has history taught us anything? The empires of Bible prophecy have vanished. The names of the nations are the same—Egypt, Syria, and Greece—yet their dominion over the world has all but ceased. The Babylonian Empire lies in ruins on the banks of the Euphrates. The cities of the Roman Empire are now tourist attractions and the delight of archaeologists. Among the voices crying from eternity, the Babylonians are saying, "Our wealth could not save us." The Medes and Persians are crying, "All the laws inscribed on stone tablets could not deliver us." The Greeks are crying, "Don't depend upon your pride and your human wisdom. Our empire finally fell and the wise men could not stop it." I
