Plucking the Eagle's Wings
The Prophetic Implication of Election 2000
6,138 votes were actually certified. Nixon carried 93 of Illinois' 102 counties, yet he lost the state by 8,858 votes. The huge turnout in Chicago under Mayor Richard Daley gave Kennedy its 450,000 votes. Some suggested that, if illegal votes, including votes of dead people, were removed from the tally, Nixon probably would have won by about 250,000 votes. Nixon, a Republican, was advised to file legal charges, but he refused. In six of the disputed states, there were different rules for recounting. In election 2000, forty years later, the Democrats demanded a Florida recount even though recount rules varied between counties. Heading the charge was Bill Daley, son of Richard Daley, whose father was accused of padding the ballot boxes forty years earlier in Chicago. In 1960, Kennedy won Illinois with Daley's help. In 2000, Daley's son protested, but Gore eventually conceded the election. During election 2000, some people pointed out that a third party candidate, Ralph Nader, took votes away from Gore's 2,842,567 votes, which could have cost Gore the election. Interestingly, when President George Bush ran for re-election in 1992, third party candidate Ross Perot got over 19 million votes, many of which would have gone to Bush. This could have cost Bush that election. When Clinton ran for re election, some allege that Clinton talked Perot into running again as a third party candidate. In 1996, Perot got another 8 million votes, thus weakening Bob Dole's position. In election 2000, the third party candidate took votes from Clinton's vice president, thus giving former President Bush's son the election. Again, we see history repeating itself. That Which Has Been and That Which Shall Be In Scripture we often see events conclude in a manner similar to their inception. For example, the last two chapters of the Bible appear to parallel the first two chapters. In Genesis 1 and 2, there is no sin, sorrow, death, or pain and in the final chapters, Revelation 21 and 22, again we see no sin, sorrow, death, or pain. Another example that illustrates this principle is the ministry of Christ. In the beginning of His ministry, there was Mary, Joseph, and Herod, and at the conclusion of His ministry we see Mary, Joseph, and Herod. At the beginning of Christ's ministry, He fasted for 40 days, and at the end He was seen alive for 40 days. Christ ascended from the Mount of Olives and will return to the Mount of Olives.
