time the events regarding the return of Christ by using numbers in Scripture and relating them to certain years. For example, in the years 666 A.D., 1000 A.D., 1260 A.D., 1290 A.D., and as recently as 2000 A.D., some zealous Christians have predicted Christ's return. Because some of these numbers are found in certain prophecies relating to end times, anxious believers have attempted to apply them to the timing of Christ's return. This type of manipulation is futile and produces many skeptics. Part of the difficulty in determining the present prophetic calendar is that there is a problem in determining which calendar is correct. There are Four Calendars There are four types of calendars that have been used from Roman times to the present: the Jubilee, the Jewish, the Julian, and the Gregorian calendars. Let's look at each of these. 1. The Jubilee Calendar
The Jubilee calendar is mentioned in the book of Jubilees in the Dead Sea Scrolls. It is also mentioned in the book of Enoch. It uses 364 days as a solar calendar year. Divided into twelve months of thirty days each, it has four additional days added each year on March 31, June 31, September 31 and December 31. It uses 52 weeks a year divided into four
quarters of 13 weeks each. 2. The Jewish Calendar
The Jewish calendar is a lunisolar calendar. The months are based on lunar orbits and the years are based on complete solar orbits. There are 354 days in a lunar cycle (the total number of lunar orbits in a year), which fall 11 days short of a solar year. Therefore, seven times every nineteen years, an extra month was added to ensure the seven feasts would fall on the proper months and seasons. 3. The Julian Calendar
