Several of the men said they not only believed it but also taught it. He then asked each minister to share with him any specific time that minister gave an offering and received an exact hundredfold return. The ministers were speechless for a moment. One man finally spoke up and said, “I have not seen my hundredfold return, but I’m still believing for it!” The older seasoned minister made an important point. He said, “You cannot tell everyone who is giving in your offering that they will all receive a hundredfold return, because the Bible says, ‘Some thirty, some sixty and some one hundred.’ Not everyone will receive a hundredfold return.” I do personally believe in a hundredfold return because it is in the Scripture. Yet I also know that it is incorrect to guarantee everyone this level of increase, because there are several levels of increase mentioned in the parable. This guarantee of a certain blessing has caused those who have not received to become confused and disillusioned. Then there is the issue of the true interpretation of Jesus’s parable of the sower. Note that He alludes to the planting of the seed of the Word (not money) in Mark 4:20. In this parable the harvest does not allude to your financial harvest but to spiritual results such as people being saved, healed, or delivered by the preaching of the gospel.
