Each living thing from the plant, animal, and human realms living on earth must reproduce through the seed process. Men carry a seed (sperm) in their loins, giving them the potential of creating another human. All animals must mate in order to procreate, and each fruit has its own seed, which reproduces “according to its kind” (Gen. 1:12). God said the “seed is in itself” (v. 11). Take a simple apple. A well-developed sweet, juicy apple grown during a good harvest year has five compartments (called carpels) containing a number of seeds, depending on the variety of apple. If one apple contains ten seeds per apple, then those ten seeds, planted and guarded under the right conditions, can eventually grow ten different sweet, juicy apple trees, although it may take four to five years before you have an edible crop. 1 The number of apples growing on each tree depends upon the pollination, the condition of the soil, the amount of water, and growth conditions. Under proper conditions, one tree can produce two hundred to four hundred apples a year. The seeds from one apple tree can eventually produce thousands of apples, capable of producing thousands of trees! All from one good seed. 2 Thus the power of a natural seed!
