problems, flat tires, and accidents. Dad always prayed for angels to protect me as I was traveling. On a few occasions when I had to drive all night long to go from one state to another for a revival, Dad literally stayed up most of the night praying for me. He always said that I was the one who caused his hair to turn from coal black to gray!

8. L EARN TO D ISCERN S PIRITUAL S UDD E NLIES

Dad learned how to discern those spiritual nudges and suddenlies. A prayer burden will usually come upon a person gradually. It begins as a weight in your spirit, and as the day progresses, the pressure intensifies. There are, however, what I call the nudges and the suddenlies . These inner urges come very unexpectedly and suddenly. I describe it like being in a room by yourself reading a very important business contract, when suddenly a person you did not see enters the room and screams, “There’s a fire!” You nearly jump out of your skin and your heart begins to pound—not just because of the announcement but also because of the unexpected visitor who broke the utter silence of the moment. Dad once said, “Many people have a mouth to speak to God, but not many have the ear to hear from God!” There were times when Dad and I were driving or flying, or perhaps had just returned home from a morning service and eating lunch.
