This prayer begins by honoring God’s name and predicting the coming kingdom. It asks for God’s will to be released on earth. There is a request for provision, forgiveness, and freedom from the evil one. It concludes by honoring the kingdom of God and recognizing God’s power and glory in the kingdom. From a practical perspective, there are four main parts of this prayer that are important on a daily basis:

1. Praying for and doing the will of God on earth 2. Praying for God to provide daily needs in our lives 3. Praying for forgiveness and forgiving others 4. Praying to be free from temptation and evil influences

The prayer recorded in Matthew 6:9–13 is called the Lord’s Prayer as it was introduced by the Christ Himself. Within moments after Dad bowed on his knees to pray, often the first words out of his mouth were the Lord’s Prayer. Since Christ Himself said “After this manner therefore pray … ” (v. 9, KJV ), Dad felt he should follow the same pattern. He did not consider this some routine,
