Cronus is another god that is sometimes represented as winged. Cronus, Horus, and Saturn are all considered to be a “god of time.” Cronus (also spelled Kronus, Chronus, Chronos, Cronos, and Kronos), from which we get our word “chronology,” was the Greek name and Saturn was the Roman name of the same god. Masonic writer, J. S. M. Ward, in his book Freemasonry and the Ancient Gods, tells us that Saturn “is the Satan, the Tempter, or rather Tester.” [Emphasis in the original] Eliphas Levi claims: “Works of malediction and death” were “under the care of Saturn.” It’s no wonder, then, that Saturn is called the “Lord of Death.” In fact, human sacrifices were even offered to him.
