defeat Leviathan, he definitely cannot array himself against the Lord for He is the only one who can humble Leviathan. The Berkeley translation says: "Who then is he who can stand before Me?" Pride will cause a person to stand up against the Lord. This was Pharaoh's downfall. Pharaoh's pride caused him to harden his heart and stand against the Lord. In Ezekiel 29:3 he is called "the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers". The New English Bible calls him a "great monster, lurking in the stream of the Nile. " Ezekiel prophesies against Pharaoh and Egypt. "But I will put hooks in they jaws" (Ezekiel 29:4). God is able to put hooks in his mouth and pull him out of his dwelling place. What man cannot do in his own strength, the Lord can do in defeating and crushing Leviathan. Leviathan cannot stand in His presence. God will crush pride. Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. (Psalm 74:13-14) This is a reference to the Lord destroying Pharaoh in the Red Sea. The head represents authority. The head of the serpent is his most vulnerable part. In destroying a serpent you always go for the head. The serpent's head was bruised by the Seed of the woman, His name is Jesus. The humility of Jesus (His submission to the Father and His death on the cross) is our only victory over Leviathan. It is the only way to crush his head. The Lord resists the proud. He will crush anyone who is proud. The Lord will not allow pride to resist and stand against Him and His purposes.
