hundred years (compare Gen. 5:32 with Gen. 7:6) to warn his generation before the flood came. The Apostle Peter wrote: And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly. 2 P ETER 2:5 According to 1 Peter 3:20, the Almighty was waiting for Noah to complete the ark before He released the universal flood upon mankind. Despite the fact that in one hundred years, Noah was unable to convince anybody that destruction was coming, and despite the fact that people mocked his warnings, he continued to warn them up to the day he entered the ark and God closed the door. The reason I can say with assurance that, despite opposition against the Gospel, we will continue to preach is because of the promise given by Christ in Matthew 24:14: And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. The great promise given to the church is that, because it is built upon the rock, or the foundation of Christ, then the “gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18). The word prevail means to overpower. The adversaries of Christianity have fought the church but will never overpower this living, thriving spiritual body on earth. So the first bit of good news is that the church will be
