7. Spend on Needs and Not Wants This is a simple truth, mentioned earlier in the book. Why spend large sums of money on things that are not actually needs and will not benefit you spiritually, emotionally, physically, or in some other form. You will never lose when investing in the three principle things Solomon wrote about—knowledge, understanding and wisdom. 8. Spend on That Which Brings a Return In the following verses, God is telling His people to move away from spending on those things that do not truly satisfy, and instead, place their faith, trust and desires in Him in order to satisfy the soul: Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. I SAIAH 55:1-2 One of the outstanding promises in the Scripture for those who have been obedient to the Lord is found in Hebrews 10:35-36: Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. Another translation renders this verse as: Do not, therefore, fling away your fearless confidence, for it carries a great and glorious compensation of reward. For you have need of steadfast patience and endurance, so that you may perform and fully accomplish the will of God, and thus receive and carry away [and enjoy to the full] what is promised. H EBREWS 10:35-36 (AMP) There is a special “recompense of reward” when believers follow the instructions of the New Covenant. In the Greek, the word recompense is misthapodosia, and it can allude to a reimbursement or compensation of some
