their phones. Texting is such an addiction that some people send a thousand texts a month. People have been killed, or been responsible for the deaths of others, all because they could not stop texting on a phone long enough to pay attention while they drive. Young people spend entire afternoons and much of the night playing online computer games of chance, war and sports. Their day is built around the hours they can spend sitting in a chair, ignoring reality, and entering a fantasy world where they rule in a world with no rules. The fact is that these people are addicted to technology and social networking. Just as a heroin addict is constantly looking for the next fix, a media junkie cannot make it through the day without their technology. Occasional recreational activities, games and other activities that you enjoy are necessary. But beware of time consuming addictions that pull you away from people or resources that can benefit your growth in life—including spiritual growth. Time cannot be recovered once it is gone, so do not waste it doing frivolous things. Look at your day and consider how much time you spend on computer games, television, Internet, social networking, texting and so on. Don’t allow this to become an addiction. Unless your job involves the Internet or some other form of media, limit your time on these and use it toward something productive. Spend time reading, speaking with knowledgeable people, and learning skills that you can apply toward success. If you waste your time on these addictions, you will become a sluggard who will come to poverty according to Proverbs 6:9 11. 2. Procrastination A procrastinator puts off for another day something that needs to be done now. They are talkers but not doers. Things they should be doing lose out to things that are unimportant or even unnecessary. People who procrastinate appear lazy, and anybody who appears to be lazy will have fewer opportunities for work and advancement. I have seen people procrastinate until the last minute, and then ask for prayer that they will complete the project on time. Some people deal with procrastination by forcing themselves to work on the most difficult task first and save the easy things for last. This is easier when you break the project into small tasks and complete it one piece at a time. Procrastination is overcome by determination, and by forcing yourself to do
