worship prior to sleeping. Worship brings heaven down to the earth, and evil spirits are unable to remain in the same room where the worshipers are exalting Christ. In Mark 5 there was one man possessed by a legion of evil spirits. However, when Christ stepped off the boat, the possessed man “ran and worshiped him” (Mark 5:6). Not even a legion of spirits could prevent this man from worshiping the Lord! Purge the mind by the renewal of the spirit. There is a simple but powerful passage in 2 Corinthians 4:16: “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.” The same thought is repeated in Colossians 3:10: “…and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.” The Greek word for renewed in these passages comes from two words: ana , meaning “back again,” and kainos , meaning “made different.” It means to make different again.4 It is a continual process of making it new and helping you to think differently. The renewing of the mind is a daily process. Throughout a common day, there is much clutter and excessive baggage that distracts and fills our thoughts. To remove this means to clear the channels through the “washing of water by the word” (Eph. 5:26). I have never been able to explain this, but every time I have opened my Bible and began to read it, there is a peace and a renewal that I sense. There are wisdom books such as Psalms and Proverbs that give practical instructions and inspire a person’s spirit. After reading and meditating on the Scriptures,
